August 1, 2007 No more supplemental results
But they still exist, now you just can't see them In Google's ever-attempt to mystify their search results they added one more trick to the mix. No longer will pages be listed as supplemental results. Really? Well thats just great Google. Now for all us webmasters who care about the quality of our pages that we are creating, we can't do a thing about it. Google is saying that they are gonna refresh that index quicker and all, but they better add a tool to webmaster central because this is crap. Now you can communicate with Google G announced over at Webmaster Central Blog the addiction of Message Center. The idea is when there are search quality issues in reference to your website you might be lucky enough to actually discuss it with Google. comScore June 07 Search Engine Ratings comScore released its search engine ratings for June 2007 and it seems Microsoft search was up 3% in June from May. The new Digg or Threadwatch? Danny Sullivan has done it again, innovating the industry with yet another great outlet of information. How this wasn't done sooner is beyond me. Sphinn is more or less Digg but geared towards Search & Internet Marketers. I've already signed up and tossed in some articles. Autodiscovery You no longer have submit your XML sitemaps to the different search engines. Last year Sitemaps.org tried to tie the search engines together by standardizing the practice of sitemap submission. Well now you don't even have to submit! All you have to do is create an XML or Text file with your list of URLs and then reference the location in your Robots.txt file. Daydreamers yea Every day I find myself wandering over to Webmasterradio.fm, clicking on the show archives and selecting The Daily SearchCast. I will toss on the show while I work and begin to daydream. I could be Daron Babin, Dave Naylor or Barry Schwartz. Yea, that's right. I could sit there on the telephone and listen to Danny rant on how Google is getting too sidetracked from search or how he secretly wishes that he could make England a bit more like America. So that is when I decided to open up a clean Word doc and starting typing up the reasons why I would be a good co-host from time to time. So here it goes:
I find myself laughing at every joke Danny makes regardless of whether or not:
Also, I know Danny needs 98% of the talk time therefore I am practicing the "yea, right" mind control technique perfect by Dave Naylor. After realizing his constant interruption failures during the show, Dave stumbled upon this wizard's phrase that forces Danny to stop talking. Danny is powerless to it - his kryptonite if you will. I kneel at Dave's genius. I am much too busy to know about everything going on in the search engines. Counter to the popular school of thought: Co-hosts do not need to know anything. Generally speaking most co-hosts interject with some topic related mind-dribble that sounds good but is generally incorrect. This is not to say that the other guys are uninformed, they are great and I am not referring to them. One example of this could be found at the most successful radio show ever, the Howard Stern show. The co-host Robin Quivers is wrong so frequently, someone put up a website refuting facts she spews on the air. Baba Booey, Baba Booey. I am a very prompt individual, so much so that I no longer need to wear a watch or see the where the sun is in the sky. I can generally guess within 5 minutes of the actual time. This is a strong characteristic for a co-host since Danny needs his dinner at the same time everyday and the show needs to start and stop at the designated times. The man is constantly hungry and needs his sustenance. I love to banter. Although I stated above that there might only be 2% of the time where I would need to talk, I have a very fun personality at times and can sling the bull excrement with the best of them. Lastly, I am fairly well versed in US pop culture. Danny loves to throw out movie, music or television references throughout the show that most times go unanswered. I am a musician as well; therefore I would be obliged to sing along if Danny so permits. I can just hear it now. "Standby for The Daily SearchCast… here's your host.
